Spotlighting Budots and its many mutations, BUDOTS WORLD: Bawal Umiwas sa Sayawan! is a 53-track compilation curated by DJ Love and contributed by Filipino producers across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Characterized by a fat bass, blippy synthesizers, air horns, looped voice samples, and atmospheric city sounds, Budots incorporates indigenous music making, such as the Sama Dilaut's (or Badjao) tagunggo'an, with 2000s euro trance and techno – colloquially known as "bistik" or Bisayan tikno. Varieties of Budots can be heard all over the Philippines, with remixes of popular songs acting as mainstays during community gatherings.

For this compilation, DJ Love sent out a call for submissions to his network of producers to submit their best work. What resulted is the latest compendium of Filipino artists at the frontier of grassroots electronic music – the majority of which is from the Mindanao region, DJ Love says. When asked what his fellow musicians want to achieve from this project: "Na makilala ang gawa nila. Iyon talaga ang main." (To be recognized for their work. That's the main thing.)

All proceeds from this release will be carefully distributed to support the families, livelihoods, and creative projects of the Camusgirlz, a Budots dance troupe from Davao City.
